The Benefits of Tooth Bonding

Tooth bonding is one of the most accessible dental restorations. It’s economical, non-invasive, and almost every patient is eligible for treatment. While many dental treatments aren’t recommended for children because their mouths are growing and changing, bonding is even ideal for them. It’s one of the only dental treatments that’s completely removable and reversible.

Even though it’s removable, it’s still designed to last up to ten years or more, depending on how well it’s taken care of. It’s a good solution if you want to try a restoration and aren’t ready to pull the trigger on something permanent. The treatments that dental bonding can take care of are comparable to those of porcelain veneers. Dental bonding makes a great trial run to determine if porcelain veneers are something you’d like to move forward with.

Bonding material is malleable, meaning that it can be molded to fit just about anything. It can give you back a part of a tooth that’s been broken off, or cover the entire tooth if you’re looking to whiten with dental bonding. Because it can be any shade, you can get bonding material matched to whatever color you desire. It’s designed to blend in perfectly with your smile.

We make sure that your bonded tooth looks and feels as natural as possible. It might take some getting used to at first, but it should feel natural and shouldn’t disrupt your speaking or chewing abilities. After the bonding material is hardened, we polish it to a natural sheen. That way, people shouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the bonding and your natural teeth!

How Does Tooth Bonding Work?

Similar to a dental filling, tooth bonding involves filling in any blemishes on your existing tooth with a color-matched resin that is sized down to blend in flawlessly with your smile. A very small amount of your original tooth will need to be removed and etched so that the resin is able to properly adhere.

Once attached to your tooth, the resin is sculpted to the surface of your tooth so that it does not feel unnatural or disrupt your bit pattern. Ultraviolet light is then used to ensure that the resin is secured to the tooth and will last you up to ten years if properly maintained. Touch-ups may be necessary but are usually just as quick and minimally invasive.
